Hydrating Foods – Eat Your Water!

Seems funny to hear eat your water but there are hydrating foods to keep your body hydrated.

HYDRATING FOODS are a thing and here are some that can help you maintain your hydration if you are not fond of drinking water.

These foods have high water content for your hydration!

Let’s admit it, there are a lot of people who are really not fond of drinking water but as much as we all know, we need water. This is important for many reasons like bringing nutrients to cells, getting rid of wastes, protecting joints and organs, and maintaining your body temperature.

If you do not drink enough water, you may suffer from dehydration which has these symptoms:

How much water should you drink? It is known that eight glasses of water are recommended to drink each day. Institute of Medicine, however, suggested:

  • 13 cups (about 3 liters) for men daily
  • 9 cups (just over 2 liters) for women daily
  • 10 cups of water for pregnant women daily
  • 6 to 8 cups of water for kids and teens daily

This sounds a lot and if you are not the person who is really not fond of water, you may definitely drink your way for hydration. Staying hydrated is extremely important for your overall health.

Here are some foods you can consume to keep your body hydrated. These are healthy foods and generally low in calorie but has high water content.

  • Melons such as watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe
  • Strawberries
  • Pineapple
  • Peaches
  • Oranges
  • Bell peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Celery
  • Cucumbers
  • Lettuce
  • Summer squash such as zucchini and yellow squash (cooked)

For some fun, you may also do these ideas:

  • mix of fresh or frozen chopped fruit
  • add some lime juice, balsamic vinegar or some fresh herbs on your bowl of fruit salad
  • fruit kebabs made of freshly cut fruits
  • you may grill some like peaches and pineapple
  • green smoothie made of mango, pineapple, banana, and spinach
  • dip and salsas for your cucumber, carrot, and bell pepper slices
  • cauliflower as rice substitute
