Inflammation is part of your body’s natural defense against external dangers like bacteria, viruses, and toxins. One of its two types is chronic inflammation, the immune system’s persistent activation despite without dangers and diet is one big contributor to an inflammation like arthritis.

Anti-inflammation diet but there’s no one approach to this. What matters is knowing the dos and don’ts. In terms of foods, knowing the components that may go against inflammation will help. These components are:

  • fiber which is found in fruits, vegetables, and especially legumes and whole grains such as barley, oats, and bran
  • omega-3 fatty acids in fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, tuna) and vegetable oils such as flaxseed and canola, walnuts, flaxseeds, and leafy green vegetables like spinach and kale
  • polyphenols, the plant chemicals found in berries, dark chocolate, tea, apples, citrus, onions, soybeans, and coffee
  • unsaturated fats in almonds, pecans, walnuts, flaxseeds, pumpkin and sesame seeds, and plant oils like olive, peanut, and canola

The types of foods that cause inflammation are:

  1. Red meat and processed meats
  2. Refined grains
  3. Snack foods
  4. Sodas and other sweetened drinks
  5. Fried foods

Stay away from “ultra-processed” foods such as microwaveable dinners, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, dehydrated soups, baked goods, sugary cereals, processed meats, biscuits, and sauces. The body reacts differently to processed foods compared to natural foods.

Go for fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes (beans, lentils), fish, poultry, nuts, seeds, a little bit of low-fat dairy, and olive oil. These are whole, unprocessed foods that have no added sugar. These foods are also best as diet foods that can help you manage and maintain a healthy weight.

Inflammation can occur with many triggers but your certainly have the control over several factors like the foods you eat. Be smart and mindful of your choices.
