Here are the hidden details on the Starbucks Logo
Starbucks Logo – The logo of one of the most popular coffee chains in the world went through a lot of changes over the years.
The current logo uses green and white colors, and the main image is a green Siren with long, wavy hair. It is a mythological creature that resembles a mermaid and it is in the center of the logo. Starbucks representative Tyler Krivich, based on the article in Reader’s Digest, said that the name of the coffee shop came from the author Herman Melville’s Moby Dick novel.
The Siren in the logo was discovered while scouring old marine books. The founders of the coffee chain decided to name the business Starbucks in 1971. Since this company originated in the port city of Seattle and coffee beans come from different parts of the globe and travel through large container ships, Siren seemed the most appropriate image in the logo.
In 1987, the color of the logo changed from brown to green. When Starbucks became a publicly traded company in 1992, several modern adaptations were made. The most prominent logo change happened in 2011.
The Siren was changed as it was made a little more modern-looking and her face also had some make-over. “Starbucks Coffee” name was removed. It is because people can associate the Siren with the company that easily.
As the Siren went through a make-over, the face became more symmetrical. However, global creative director Connie Birdsall said that something was missing. “It was like, ‘Oh, we need to step back and put some of that humanity back in. The imperfection was important to making her really successful as a mark,” Birdsall shared.
Looking closely, you can see that there is a slight asymmetry in the Siren’s face to this day in the Starbucks logo.
“You’ll notice that the right side of her face has a bit more shadow, and her nose dips slightly lower on the right than the left. “It felt a bit more human and felt less like a perfectly cut mask,” design partner Bogdan Geana shared.
Aside from coffee with different flavors, Starbucks also offers hot chocolate which has an amazing history.
